It has become recognized that an important mechanism of tissue repair and functional improvement of stem cells occurs through the release of therapeutic factors (growth factors, chemokines, cytokines and others) after injection of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). Based on their deep understanding of this paracrine mechanism NeuroFx scientific founders Drs. Keith March, MD, PhD and Yansheng Du, PhD of the Indiana University School of Medicine have investigated the potential use of these soluble factors as a therapeutic product to treat disease in humans.
As shown in the graphic below, the therapeutic (soluble) factors secreted by stem cells have been shown to exert multiple beneficial effects including pro-angiogenic, pro-neurogenic, anti-apoptotic, and anti-inflammatory effects.
