Chief Business Officer
Ms. Rhodes has over 15 years of entrepreneurial experience with early stage technology and life science companies, serving in both senior executive management positions and as an outside advisor. From 1998-2008, she was a corporate transactional lawyer at Ice Miller, LLP, a large regional law firm, being named as an equity partner after six years of practice. Most of her work as a practicing lawyer was focused on leading private equity transactions both as counsel for early stage companies and private investment funds and advising early stage life science and technology companies on a wide variety of legal and business matters. Jennifer is also a non-practicing (and currently unlicensed) CPA.
Since 2008, Jennifer has served as Executive Director and General Counsel for an affiliated group of privately-held medical device companies. In this role, she has helped raise approximately $15M in private financing and state and federal grants (including several SBIRs from NIH). Jennifer’s operational experience covers areas including strategic planning and implementation, business development, financial and operations management, and general legal counsel. She has helped define, develop and implement business plans and strategies, structure and negotiate investment, intellectual property licensing and joint venture agreements, and organize product development for a broad range of medical devices. She has assisted with the design, implementation and management of two clinical studies – one in the US and one outside the US – as well as a variety of preclinical acute and chronic small and large animal studies for various medical devices. In connection with that work, she has interacted frequently with FDA, regulatory counsel and CROs and has spent significant time developing clinical and regulatory strategies and defining preclinical and clinical protocols. Jennifer has worked regularly with university tech transfer and sponsored programs offices in connection with the structure of sponsored research and licensing arrangements.
Most recently, in a period of about 10 months, Jennifer led the effort to sell an early proof-of-concept diagnostic technology for a primarily non-milestone-based, multi-million dollar return for her company, representing a return of well over 100x investment.
Jennifer received a B.S. in Business from the Indiana University School of Business and a J.D. from the Indiana University School of Law, in each case with highest honors.
